Special Education Operations
Special Education Operations supports the implementation of high-quality special education services across LAUSD’s diverse educational landscape. Supporting more than 70,000 in students with disabilities in LAUSD, Special Education Operations ensures equitable access to services and compliance with federal and state mandates. Through collaboration, technical assistance, and oversight, Special Education Operations empowers schools to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities and fosters inclusive practices that promote academic and social success.

In addition to supporting charter schools, Special Education Operations plays a critical role in coordinating district-wide systems that ensure timely and effective service delivery. This includes managing the operational logistics of specialized transportation, student placements, Extended School Year (ESY) programming, and compliance monitoring. The department also facilitates interdepartmental collaboration to address complex student needs and provides professional development and technical assistance to school staff. By building capacity and streamlining operations, Special Education Operations helps ensure that all students with disabilities receive the services and supports necessary to thrive in their educational environments.
