LAUSD and Charter Schools: Supporting Diverse Educational Needs

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board of Education is dedicated to offering a diverse range of schools and programs that address the unique educational needs and priorities of the students and families it proudly serves. Charter schools play an integral role as valuable partners and viable options within the District’s comprehensive educational offerings. The Board of Education views charter schools as a complementary avenue to advance its vision and mission of educational excellence.

With the highest number of charter schools of any district nationwide, LAUSD is home to over 200 independent charter schools, serving more than 110,000 students, including over 14,000 students with disabilities. These schools are located throughout the District's boundaries, providing families with access to diverse educational opportunities. Explore the map below to view specific locations.

The Division of Special Education is steadfast in its commitment to serving all students with disabilities, including those enrolled in independent charter schools. Collaborating closely with the District, the Division ensures that every family has equitable access to charter school education and supports charters in meeting the needs of a diverse population of students with disabilities. By fostering the development of high-quality programs and services, the Division works to enhance educational outcomes for students with special needs at independent charter schools.
