Parentally Placed Private School Office (PPPSO)
The Los Angeles Unified School District is responsible for Child Find for all students residing in and attending private schools within LAUSD boundaries or homeschool students not enrolled in a public charter school. The PPPSO delivers alternative services to private school and homeschool students who are found eligible for special education services.

Focus Areas
  • Child Find and Initial Referrals
    The PPPSO ensures timely Child Find for students residing in and attending private schools within LAUSD boundaries, as well as for homeschool students not enrolled in public charter schools. Staff support families and private schools with clear guidance on submitting referral requests, completing required documentation, and navigating the evaluation process.
  • Special Education Evaluation and Eligibility
    LAUSD coordinates comprehensive, non-discriminatory special education evaluations for private school and homeschool students. This includes gathering records, conducting observations, and collaborating with private school staff and families to determine eligibility in accordance with state and federal requirements.
  • Individual Services Plan (ISP) Development
    For students found eligible for special education services who remain in private school or homeschool settings, PPPSO facilitates the development of an Individual Services Plan (ISP). Staff ensure families understand ISP options, service delivery models, and their rights when declining FAPE in the public school.
  • Service Delivery and Alternative Services
    LAUSD provides federally required equitable services for eligible students through a variety of alternative service models, including specialized instruction, consultation, and targeted support. Services are aligned to ISP goals and delivered in collaboration with private school personnel.
  • Guidance and Support for Private School Staff
    PPPSO partners with private school educators to support implementation of interventions, share records, and coordinate access to evaluations and services. Staff provide ongoing communication and technical assistance to ensure clarity regarding procedures, timelines, and compliance requirements.
